Are Professionals Movers Open During COVID-19?

Working with Professional Movers Amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

With the recent outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19), a question on everyone's minds is what businesses the virus is impacting, and what services are still open. Are movers and moving companies still open during the Coronavirus pandemic? While moving companies, like University Moving and Storage, are considered essential and have kept their doors open through the pandemic, there is now a new normal that we all need to be aware of and take part in.

COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus, is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person and may be fatal. The main symptoms of the virus are cough, shortness of breath, and fever. With the appearance of this outbreak, steps and actions are being taken by professional moving companies and their clients to avoid contamination.

  • Social Distancing - The first step is to be mindful of social distancing. The basic distance is to stay six feet apart to decrease the chance of spreading COVID-19. Also, make sure you wash your hands, do not touch your face, and cover your cough and sneeze or wear a mask. This changes how walkthroughs and packing will be completed. For example, companies are now able to complete walkthroughs virtually via Skype, Zoom, or facetime.
  • Disinfect & Sanitize – While moving during the Coronavirus pandemic, distancing, disinfecting, and sanitizing are the most important things. Sanitize your personal belongings with CDC approved disinfectants such as Lysol, Clorox, and bleach. You can save time and make a solution of bleach by mixing five tablespoons of bleach per quart of water. It will be important to completely clean and disinfect your entire home before you move in.
  • Use New Packing Supplies - When packing, make sure you use only new cardboard boxes. With the presence of the virus, donated or used boxes might be contaminated. After you are done packing, leave your house and belongings for twenty-four hours prior to the movers' arrival to allow any appearance of contamination on the boxes to go away.
  • Stay Informed - The biggest thing to watch out for while moving during the pandemic is information. Stay informed. Know the travel bans and restrictions. Pack extra necessities and food because of closures. If you follow these safety steps, you will lessen not only your risk to exposure but also your movers' risk.
