As a company committed to safe, professional moving services, University Moving and Storage is already in the business of helping families when they need it most. Our recent participation in the Detroit Truck Pull — an event hosted by nonprofit Move For Hunger — to fight hunger is one more way we’ve done that.
Held Sunday, May 6, at the Eastern Market Brewing Co., the Detroit Truck Pull was an event in which teams of five to 10 people competed to see who could pull a moving truck 100 feet in the fastest time. While the truck pull competition was fun, the real winner of the day, though, was the number of food-insecure individuals who will benefit from Move For Hunger’s help, made possible in part by this event. Through the event sponsorship of several companies and a $1 donation from Eastern Market Brewing Co. for each beer sold, the Detroit Truck Pull successfully raised $23,500 to help people in desperate need of assistance.
University Moving and Storage is proud to partner with Move For Hunger to support families in need — both in moving food items to food shelters and in participating in the Detroit Truck Pull event. Working with Move For Hunger is one more way we give back to our community and help individuals and families who need extra support.
If you’re moving and would like to donate the unwanted, non-perishable contents of your pantry rather than move them into your new home, contact us today. We’ll come to you, pack everything and take it away, free of charge.
Move For Hunger is a nonprofit organization that partners with professional moving companies, such as University Moving and Storage, to relocate perfectly good food left by moving families to local food banks. This takes food that would have been wasted and puts it into the hands of people who are hungry. To date, Move For Hunger has collected more than 10 million pounds of food and fed some 9 million needy individuals. It has plans to feed 3 million more this year.
